Double Chin? Meet your Kybella Alternative
- Posted on: Apr 30 2016
Not too long ago, beauty magazines and blogs were buzzing about the newest innovation in aesthetic medicine: Kybella. This injectible product gained FDA approval for the treatment of submental fullness, or the double-chin, early in 2015. Not even a year later, we now have a second option for banishing the bulge that can develop in this area, one that is causing potential patients to sit up and take notice.
CoolSculpting Has a New Use
Many people have heard of CoolSculpting, the non-surgical, completely non-invasive method of reducing unwanted fat. Since its inception, this treatment has been focused on larger areas, such as the abdomen or the thighs. Recently, the developers of the CoolSculpting technology came up with a new applicator, the CoolMini, which is designed to address the hard-to-reach chin area with ease.
Making the Comparison
Because Dr. Behr offers both Kybella and CoolMini treatments, her patients have the benefit of choices. In order to even consider which may be right for you, it helps to know how they work. Remember, however, that this information will only help you determine your personal preference. A consultation and assessment of your needs will be the driving force behind which fat-reducing process best suited to your skin.
Kybella has been said to dissolve fat, which it literally does! The solution contains deoxycholic acid, a naturally substance which is partially responsible for fat elimination in the body. When small amounts are injected under the chin, the acid is absorbed by fat cells, which then burst. Multiple treatments are necessary.
Contrary to Kybella, the CoolMini CoolSculpting attachment gets rid of unwanted fat cells by freezing them. The small applicator panels gently pull in the fat located beneath the chin. Sitting between the two panels, fat cells are subjected to controlled temperatures, which causes them to freeze. Technically, the lipid contents of these cells become crystallized, which leads to the destruction of the cells. In one treatment, as much as one-third of the targeted fat will be destroyed. Like Kybella, a few treatment sessions may be necessary.
Both Kybella and CoolSculpting promote natural fat elimination, which means the results of each treatment will be noticed over several weeks time.
