Kybella™ in Fresno, CA
What is Kybella™?
KYBELLA™ is a new prescription injectable approved by the FDA that is used in adults to improve the appearance and profile of moderate to severe fat below the chin (submental fat), also known as “double chin.” It is the first ever non-invasive treatment option for removing double chin fat.
How Does Kybella Work?
The active ingredient in Kybella™ is deoxycholic acid, a naturally-occurring molecule in the body that aids in the breakdown and absorption of dietary fat. When injected into the fat beneath your chin, Kybella™ causes the destruction of fat cells. Dr. Behr is one of the first physicians in the Central Valley to become a certified Kybella trainer.
Benefits of Kybella Treatment
Kybella™ is a non-surgical dermal filler and requires very little recovery and no downtime. The list of Kybella™ benefits can go on and on, but the biggest benefit is the most simple one: it is extremely effective. The fat cells that are treated during the injection are permanently destroyed, meaning the results can be permanent as well.
Who is a Candidate for Double Chin Fat Reduction?
The best candidate for Kybella™ is anyone who dislikes their fat under the chin that does not want to have a surgical procedure to remove it. Most optimal results come from patients whose double chin is due to genetics, rather than excess weight. Patients with healthy skin elasticity report high satisfaction with their treatment results. It is also an additional benefit to be in generally good health when choosing Kybella™.
Who Is Not a Good Candidate for Kybella?
Kybella™ is not an ideal treatment for patients who have loose/excess skin or scar tissue in the area of treatment. This typically means that the skin elasticity is poor and will not provide optimal results when treated with Kybella™.
It should be noted that this treatment is not appropriate to women who are pregnant, nursing, or currently have an infection. Be sure to be honest with your provider to ensure the best results, as well as to ensure safety.
How Many Treatments Will I need?
Many patients treated with Kybella experience visible contouring of their chin profile in 2-4 treatments. Some people require up to 6 treatments in order to achieve their desired results for double chin reduction. Dr. Behr will recommend how many treatments to start with at the time of your consultation.
Recovery after Kybella Treatment
For most patients, downtime was minimal and occurred most commonly after the first treatment session. When scheduling your treatments, keep your social plans and work commitments in mind. The most common side effects are swelling, bruising, areas of hardness, pain, numbness, and redness in the treatment area.
Side Effects of Kybella
Kybella™ is considered to be a generally safe procedure with minimal risks. However, due to the injections, patients may experience numbness, bleeding, redness, swelling, or minor bruising in the area of treatment. These side effects usually subside after the first day of treatment, but can possibly reside for an additional few days. If you are experiencing excess bleeding or difficulty swallowing after your procedure, contact your doctor immediately.
Other Uses Of Kybella
Another use of Kybella is body contouring. Kybella can be used for bra fat, small pockets after lipo, knees and inner thighs. Kybella also can be used to treat jowls and facial contouring. To enhance the results, Kybella can be used with fillers to improve facial contours and eliminate the appearance of jowls.
