Z-Plasty Neck Lift
What is a Z-Plasty Neck Lift?
A Z-Plasty Neck Lift removes excess skin and fat from below the chin and front of the neck, commonly referred to as a “turkey gobbler”. The procedure involves an incision made under the chin and at the top of the neck to remove the fat and excess skin that is then closed in a zig-zag or Z formation. The Z-shaped incision and suture helps camouflage the scar and prevent complications. This procedure provides the best rejuvenation for the neck without the downsides of a traditional facelift. The scar will be visible as it heals, but it will fade over time, typically between four to six months after the treatment.
How Long Does the Z-Plasty Procedure?
The procedure is relatively quick, taking approximately 30-45 minutes after 30 minutes of numbing.
What Should I Expect Post-Treatment?
After the procedure, you may experience mild to moderate soreness with some swelling and bruising. Sutures will remain in place for 7-10 days. You will need to wear a compression garment to properly heal for 1-2 weeks following your treatment and advise that you avoid any strenuous activity for two weeks and any prolonged exposure to the sun. The final results are seen in a few months once the skin has healed and inflammation resolved.
Who is a Good Candidate for Z-Plasty?
Any person who has excess skin and fat beneath the chin and in front of the neck, or a “turkey gobbler,” but does not want a full face lift is a good candidate for the Z-Plasty neck lift. They must be aware that it only helps the skin on the neck and that they will be left with a small scar under the chin.
