Underarm sweat can negatively affect your sense of confidence. Persistent wetness under the arms impacts physical comfort and can also show through clothing, leading to embarrassment. If odor coincides with wetness, the management of personal hygiene can become a chore. You don’t have to live with excessive underarm sweat. Your Fresno dermatologist Dr. Behr offers an innovative solution to end hyperhidrosis for good.
What is miraDry?
miraDry procedure uses the only non-invasive technology that is FDA cleared and clinically proven to dramatically reduce sweat, odor and hair growth! It is currently in use in over 50 countries around the world. This revolutionary treatment safely and effectively targets the glands that produce underarm sweat. No toxins. No injections. Lasting results. If embarrassing underarm sweat, stained clothing, odor and frequent antiperspirant application is interfering with your daily life, you may be good a candidate for miraDry.
How does miraDry stop underarm sweat?
The miraDry process is straightforward. Treatment targets sweat and odor glands at a depth of 2mm to 5mm below the skin’s surface. When these glands absorb efficient miraWaveTM energy, they heat up in a controlled manner. This incites thermolysis, or deterioration by heat. Both sweat and odor glands respond similarly to the gentle energy delivered during treatment, facilitating immediate and lasting improvement. Underarm sweat ends for good because the glands that decompose by thermolysis do not return and no new glands grow back to replace them.
Am I a candidate for miraDry?
The miraDry device has been cleared by the FDA for use in patients over the age of 21 who are bothered by persistent underarm sweat. If you would like to feel dry throughout the day and do so without toxins and heavy-duty antiperspirant, you may be an excellent candidate for miraDry in our Fresno office. How many treatments are required To Stop Sweating?
One treatment may be sufficient for some patients. However, studies indicate that optimal results are usually achieved with two treatments. In some cases, a third treatment may be necessary, though this is uncommon.
The miraDry Sweat Reduction Procedure
We perform miraDry treatments in our comfortable Fresno office. The entire visit may take 60 to 90 minutes. Before we begin, numbing medication is administered to the underarm area.
The target region is then marked to guide the use of miraWave energy.
A handpiece is placed directly on the skin in line with the template that has been applied. When the handpiece is activated, superficial tissue is gently suctioned to improve contact with sweat and odor glands. A cooling mechanism offsets the intensity of thermal energy, making treatment comfortable.
Each underarm area is treated within approximately 20 minutes.
Is miraDry painful?
The use of local anesthesia helps patients tolerate miraDry treatment very well. The device’s cooling mechanism also offsets thermal heat and prevents burn by keeping the surface temperature cool. Because miraWave energy transfers to heat when it gets absorbed, a slight warming sensation may be felt. After treatment, lingering “heat” may be alleviated with cold compresses and over-the-counter pain-relieving medication.
Are there any side effects after miraDry treatment?
Most patients can expect to experience:
- One to eight weeks of minor swelling in the underarm area
- Weeks of altered skin sensations in the treatment area
- Two to three weeks of tenderness or soreness
- A few days of redness due to the suction of the device
- Four to six weeks of lumps or bumps under the arms
- Hair loss in the underarm area may also occur
results after miraDry treatment
Results from miraDry treatment are immediate and also long-lasting. Initially, underarm sweat production may cease altogether. As swelling subsides, a degree of sweating is expected to return. Clinical data on miraDry patients demonstrates a high degree of efficiency for both hyperhidrosis and osmidrosis (foul odor). In one clinical study, patients rated their satisfaction at 90% and experienced sweat reduction of 82%.
Is miraDry harmful to my health?
Thousands of miraDry procedures have been conducted worldwide since the development of this device. The electromagnetic energy delivered to overactive sweat and odor glands is not new to medicine. This technology has been used in oncology, urology, general surgery, and cardiology for many years.
Disabling sweat and odor glands in the underarm area is not harmful to health because less than 2% of the body’s sweat glands are located here. After treatment, systemic temperature-control is sustained through healthy sweat glands. Studies have also confirmed that the destruction of underarm glands does not cause compensatory sweating in other glands of the body.
