What is BOTOX® Cosmetic?
BOTOX® is specially formulated with a purified protein, which relaxes the muscles when injected into the targeted area, ultimately reducing the appearance of frown lines and facial wrinkles. It is a minimally invasive procedure, allowing patients to return to normal daily activities immediately following the procedure. If necessary, a topical anesthesia can be used before your Fresno BOTOX® procedure.
How does Botox work?
Botox is a neuromodulator, a purified toxin protein that affects muscle tissue. Inserting a neuromodulator into a target muscle prevents the transmission of necessary chemicals that cause contraction. By inhibiting the strength of muscle contractions, Botox injections reduce the signs of aging that are related to making facial expressions.
How long does Botox Injections take?
One of the advantages of Botox injections is that appointments do not take very long. Once the initial consultation is performed, injections require only a few minutes. Patients can expect to be in and out of the office in less than an hour.
Will I see results immediately after Botox injections?
Botox injections takes a few days to work. This is because the muscles that are treated have been in a state of tension for many months or years. Once injections are performed, the chemicals that force the muscles to contract can no longer be released. Over 5 to 7 days, the muscles relax and the effects of treatment reach their peak.

BOTOX Injections Before And After
Is BOTOX® safe?
FDA approved, Botox® is a safe and effective procedure that provides patients with results that can last anywhere from 3 to 5 months, on average. BOTOX has been used for over 20 years for a variety of medical conditions, and it has been FDA approved for cosmetic usage since 2002.
Only licensed and trained healthcare professionals have the experience necessary to administer BOTOX. Dr. Behr has been using BOTOX for 15 years, and she is a trainer for other healthcare professionals.
Is Botox Painful?
Botox is administered with a fine needle and is passed just beneath the surface of the skin. The only sensation that patients can expect is a small pinch as injections are made. After treatment, mild soreness or tenderness may occur. However, this decreases quickly and can be hastened by avoiding touching the area that has been treated.
BOTOX® side effects
Botox is regarded as a safe and effective treatment with few side effects. For a short time after injections, patients may feel slightly sore or tender. Injection sites may look red and swollen. Some people experience bruising. This risk can be minimized by avoiding alcohol and blood thinners before undergoing injectable treatment. Because Botox injections are a purified, mild toxin, side effects such as mild flu-like headache or achiness may occur. These side effects also diminish quickly.
A recent survey reported that about 97% of patients were satisfied with the results of their BOTOX®. Dr. Behr has patients follow up in her office two weeks after their treatment, to make sure they are satisfied with their results. If a small touch up is done at this time, it is usually free of charge.
How often will I need Botox Injections to maintain results?
The results from Botox injections typically last from 3 to 4 months. How long effects last depends on each person’s metabolism and how quickly their body breaks down the neuromodulator. Injections can be safely repeated as often as every 3 months.
Is there anything I should avoid after having Botox?
It is important to follow post-treatment recommendations to minimize the chances of lingering side effects. Patients should give themselves a 24-hour window before resuming exercise and strenuous activity. Alcohol consumption should be limited during this time to lessen the risk of bruising. Blood-thinning medications and supplements should also be avoided, as should extreme heat, such as sitting in a hot tub or sauna.
