What is Rhinophyma?
Rhinophyma is a condition that stems from Rosacea resulting in thickening of the skin on the nose. The nose will appear red, inflamed, and bulbous. W.C. Fields is the most famous example of Rhinophyma.
What methods are used to treat Rhinophyma?
Rhinophyma can sometimes be controlled with oral and topical medications, but is more severe cases surgical procedures are needed.
What type of surgical procedures are used to treat Rhinophyma?
Excellent results have been achieved with combination therapy. In extreme cases surgical excision may be necessary. Once that is healed the nose is then sculpted with wireloop electrocautery to remove the bulk of the bulbous tissue and then immediately smoothed out using C02 laser.
How long does the healing process take?
This procedure has a healing time of approximately 14 days. Once the healing is complete patients are thrilled with the look of their “new nose”.
