This allows you to make an educated decision about your treatment.
SmartLipo is a fat-reduction technique that involves laser energy to melt fatty deposits before cells and fluid are removed through a small cannula. The use of laser energy heats the fat cells as well as superficial tissue, which means there is a slight skin-tightening effect that will occur after surgery. Some of the popular areas of SmartLipo treatment include the back, male breasts, thighs, flanks, hips, and stomach.
There are only a few details to know before SmartLipo. These include:
- You should stop smoking
- You may need to avoid certain medications and supplements
- Alcohol consumption may increase bleeding, so minimize the vino a few days before surgery
- Adopting good lifestyle habits will enhance your results
During SmartLipo
SmartLipo treatment may be conducted under general anesthesia or, in some cases, local anesthesia with a mild sedative. The procedure may take from 45 minutes to 2 hours depending on the area being treated. Because SmartLipo dissolves fat prior to extraction, this technique is an excellent option for small areas such as the upper neck and chin (double-chin). After anesthesia has been administered, small incisions are made to accommodate access to the operative area. Laser energy is emitted from a small probe to affect fat cells. Then, the cannula is inserted through the same incision to remove tissue.
After SmartLipo
One of the biggest advantages of SmartLipo is that patients recover more quickly than they do with traditional liposuction techniques. A few days off work may be all that is necessary to move beyond the minor soreness that occurs. Bruising and swelling take several days to subside but typically do not pose an issue. For a period of one to two weeks, a compression garment may be worn. Due to swelling, the final result of surgery may take a few weeks to become noticeable.
