The Thermage™ procedure tightens tissue by delivering radiofrequency energy through the skin, heating the deep skin layers underneath while protecting the skin surface with a cooling action.  The procedure is intended to cause immediate collagen contraction followed by new collagen production and continued tightening over time.  Patients treated in clinical studies continue to show improvement at least six months after treatment.

 

The Thermage™ procedure requires no recovery time, so you can return to normal activities the very same day of your treatment.  Best of all, there are no needles or scalpels, and few reports of damage to the skin surface.  Since the Thermage™ procedure works by tightening deeper tissue, it can complement other procedures that treat the upper layers of your skin.

 

The treatment process begins with application of a topical anesthetic and oral antiaxiolytic and pain medications to the treatment area.  After 45 minutes, the anesthetic is removed and the treatment area is marked with ink in a grid pattern composed of squares corresponding to the size of the Thermage™ treatment tip held against the skin during the treatment.  Atop the grid a conducting fluid is added to move the heat through the skin.  Each square is treated with the Thermage™ treatment tip and exposed to a single sequence of: (1) cryogen based precooling, (2) simultaneous Thermage™ heating and (3) post cooling.

 

The actual procedure can take anywhere from 15-60 minutes depending on the size of the area treated.  There is no down time and results are seen within weeks.  “With Thermage™ we have lifted eyebrows 2 millimeters,” says Dr. Behr.  “We have achieved results never seen before without cutting into the skin, and it is as permanent as a surgical procedure.”   Thermage™ can be used to raise eyebrows, tighten the neck area, and can even help treat acne by diminishing oil glands.
