VBeam

What laser does Dr. Behr use for vascular lesions?

Dr. Behr has the V beam Perfecta which is a Pulsed Dye Laser with the latest technology.  The laser delivers a specific wavelenth of light that is absorbed by blood vessels in the dermis to help remove them.

What conditions can be treated with the Vbeam?

The Vbeam is very effective in reducing redness of the face and neck and in treating rosacea.   Specifiic lesions it treats well are broken vessels, spider hemangiomas, cherry hemangiomas and port wine stains.  It is also helpful in treating scars and warts.

Does it hurt?

The skin being treated is protected by Candela's dynamic cooling method DCD, which delivers a cooling mist before the laser pulse.  The feeling most patients report is a warming or like a rubber band snap.

Is PDL safe?

Yes, this technology has been used in the 1980's for the treatment of port wine stain birthmarks in infants and young children.  Dr. Behr used an earlier version of the same laser in the 1990s while at UCLA.  It is very safe and predictable.  Side effects include slight swelling for a few hours and occasionally bruising for a few days.

How many treatments does it take ?

That depends of the lesion being treated.   Broken blood vessels are usually treated in 2-3 treatments.  Diffuse redness and portwine stains can take several to get the best results but improvement should be seen after each treatment.
